Nu när solen visar sig så sällan får man läsa om den istället. Alltid utmärkta National Geographic har ett matigt jobb om solstormar i nya numret (svenska utgåvan). De tar avstamp i den största kända solstormen 1859. Om en storm av samma kaliber drabbar vår jord idag hade miljontals människor fått klara sig utan ljus, värme, vatten, medicin, etc. Återuppbyggnaden beräknas ta ett decennium och skulle kosta uppåt 13 biljarder per år. Läskigt nog vet man inte vad som händer på solen förrän ett par dagar i förväg. Vad man däremot vet är att en period av maximal solaktivitet väntas inträffa just i år…
Hur förbereder sig forskarna för dessa stormar? Det får vi veta i National Geographic. Vi bjuds även på ett reportage om det udda djurlivet på ön Socotra i Arabiska havet. Och så avslöjas de ursprungliga färgerna på Kinas 2 200 år gamla terrakottaarmé, som skapade sådan rusning till bergrummet under Östasiatiska museet i Stockholm häromåret.
